A sweat-lodge is a pre-Hispanic bath which became common in all mesa American cultures, the oldest tracings of a temascal in the archeological ruins of Palenque in Mexico and in Piedras Negras, Guatemala. Different structures and materials have been detected, clay, wattle, leaf skin and blankets. Its use throughout history has mainly been therapeutic, whilst always being a ritual and ceremony. The practice has survived thanks to the oral tradition from different indigenous communities in Mexico. The word ‘temascal’ is a nahuatl word meaning house of sweat- ‘temas’ meaning sweat and ‘calli’ meaning house.
We have made our sweat-lodge, as the traditional ones were made, with mud and wattle. Here you can relax and cleanse your body with medicinal herbs and a purifying resin known as copal. You may firstly cover your face in a special chamomile and mud mask so that after the sweat-lodge the dead cells form your skin have been removed, leaving your skin soft and smooth.
The sweat-lodge ceremony is a beautiful and powerful moment, an opportunity to reconcile with ourselves, and with our loved ones, with our lives and our health which are the strength in our spiritual path
A sweat-lodge, with the aid of the correctly chosen medicinal herbs purifies the respiratory ways and the digestive system, and it calms the nervous system, it also helps osteo-muscular and gynecological-obstetrician problems.
A sweat lodge will bring you different places of your being, in the way that meditation can. It can be a moment of revelation, and in a group situation it can encourage a deep spiritual bonding.
